6 FACTS ABOUT GABRIELLE COCO CHANNEL

Although many people known the basic story of Coco Chanel and her rise to fame, there are many things about Coco Chanel that most people do not know. Her name is still a symbol of high fashion and she changed the game of clothing back in the day. And her perfume is one of the most popular fragrances today, even almost 100 years after it was created. You can always see how her experiences shaped her clothing and accessories. So behold, some fun facts about Coco Chanel. And remember: “A girl should always be two things, classy and fabulous.”

1. SHE MADE THE TAN POPULAR

Among the many facts about Coco Chanel... one is that she made the tan popular. After her trip to Cannes, she came back looking sun kissed and fabulous!!! And Because of her popularity in Paris at the time, women wanted to emulate her and look like her. After her tan skin became known, having sun kissed skin was all the rage in Paris in that time. This was unusual because up to that time, having pale skin was more common and considered more elegant than tan skin.

2. SHE SPRAYED CHANEL NO 5 THROUGHOUT HER HOME

One of the most fun facts about Coco Chanel is that she had Chanel No. 5 sprayed throughout her home. I am not sure why, but I love this fact. It says to me that Chanel enjoyed the finer things in life and wanted to be surrounded by elegance. But not only that, she wanted a constant reminder of her hard work.!! That's a great trick! BTW..!!

3. HER REAL NAME IS GABRIELLE

She was born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel after being born in Samur. When she grew up she started a career as a singer. Because her most popular song was called “Qui qu’a vu Coco,” she quickly got the nickname Coco. And that name stuck with her throughout her fashion career..!!

4. SHE WAS A LICENSED HAT MAKER

Not many people know this fun fact about Coco Chanel, but she started her career as a hat-maker. She started off small, making hats for friends. But eventually her business started to boom and she started to expand her lines to include clothes. But this was not possible without the support of her love Arthur Capel, who supported her in opening her first hat boutique!!

5. SHE INVENTED THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS

Another one of the facts about Coco Chanel is that she is credited with inventing the ever-popular “Little Black Dress.” She introduced it in 1926, and while many designers change their fashions up every year, Chanel kept her LBD relatively the same from year to year because of its incredible popularity.

6. SHE REVOLUTIONIZED WOMEN'S CLOTHING

Another one of the  facts about Coco Chanel is that her concept of comfortable and practical clothing was groundbreaking at the time. She lived in a time where corsets were common and women were supposed to wear extravagant dresses and dainty jewelry. Chanel went against the grain and designed clothes that were for the everyday woman and were functional. Her suit became famous for its simple cut and fabric and how it flattered women without forcing them to suck in their stomachs. She also is credited with bringing costume jewelry to fame with large ornate pieces...!!
Coco Chanel is still one of the most well known names in fashion to this day. She lived an interesting life and there is no doubting that she was an incredible woman. While some people are more familiar with her clothing, it is important to know a bit about her and learn what inspired her timeless pieces. These facts about Coco Chanel show a bit about her inspiration for her clothing and accessories.

HOW TO WEAR :The Bomber Jacket SS13

The bomber jacket is just one of many menswear pieces whose heritage is cemented within the armed forces. Similar to the pea, trench and parka coats, the bomber has a timeless appeal that transcends years, styles and trends; born out of military means and adapted to form part of popular culture.
This timeless quality makes the bomber well worth investing in if you have a penchant for classic, enduring personal style.
Traditionally identified by its waist length, knitted waistband/cuffs and front zip closure the bomber has been reinvented and reinvigorated in various forms. The basic bomber silhouette has played part in a number of classic takes that have gone down in menswear history and continue to be worn today.

LOOK 1:

A printed bomber jacket can make a bold statement. With print being arguably the most prominent menswear trend of both 2012 and 2013, opting for a pattern shows familiarity with current industry influences. This style of bomber is ultimately a casual piece and works best when utilised as such.
Matching it with a simple sweatshirt, black jeans and pair of sneakers references another major trend: sports luxe, whilst the print in the bomber ensures the look is neither slovenly nor ordinary:

WHAT IS FASHION?

Even if you say you don't care about fashion and

don't dress to make a statement, you are

making a statement (that you don't care about

fashion)!!!

As girl into fashion and a student of textile, it is important to understand the true meaning of the F word: Fashion. What does it really mean and what is it's real purpose? For me, fashion helps you express 'yourself' and therefore it should always be based on what you find interesting - and no one else!
Fashion is an expression of one's inner self and not a reflection of every one's expectation of what should be expressed. The land of true fashion is a lion's den and you better know what you're up against before throwing yourself into the roaring dungeon of darkness! Okay, maybe that's a bit overboard but hey, you've seen the movies, (the one true source )- the fashion world is brutal and people's understanding and definition of fashion is even more scary.

I think that fashion should be seen as something that represents a rhythm but the steps we choose to move to the music with, should be our own- we should move freely and not bound to the must-have-lists.
Because seriously, nothing is as refreshing as seeing someone walk down the street in their own little world of awesomeness! So why so scared to stand out, don't be a slave to what the trend pages say - and if you have to, be inspired not numbed and brainwashed to become a 'FASHIONSLAVE'- different is brilliant and who knows, you could absolutely be walking down the street spreading your little share of awesomeness with your genuine uniqueness.
Remember, fashion is 'a general term for the style and custom prevalent at a given time" which basically means that fashion is constantly fleeting while style is forever.
So put down those trend slaved zombie hands and become an admirable masterpiece!
What are your feelings about fashion? Where do you place your craze, are you a zombie or masterpiece?
